100 GARDENS, S/S 2019
Small garden layouts of my imagination collaborate with paintings from the great artists for color composition. This is my foundation project for a larger pursuit revolving around garden design as art pieces.
FORM // Using the same 4 blocks (you will recognize these as an offshoot from my COLOR WORLD series using the Fibonacci Sequence), 100 Different garden layouts are arranged into forms. When I begin, the blocks are in grey scale and the focus is always garden design - I am imagining these as outdoor spaces: planting blocks, lawns, hardscapes, structures, sculpture, pools, walls, etc. This is the base and the epicenter for this project.
COLOR // The color palette for each garden is pulled from paintings by the great artists such as Michelangelo, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, Pollock, Hopper, Johns, Kandinsky…when selecting final colors I try to push myself, leave the expected or easy and create something that feels new. The color study and how it plays into creating form is a fascinating aspect that often twists and challenges the mind in the best ways.
